As you babes know, I’m constantly battling the war that is dry skin, and unfortunately, the curse of dry lips is an issue that seems to come hand in hand and is admittedly not at all helped by my obsession with matte lipstick…
Ohhh for the love of matte! How can something be so pretty yet leave all of our lips dry, chapped and not to mention flaky! Am I right ladies??
my current skincare faves that I cannot live without …and you shouldn’t either!
With a lip care routine and a little extra loving, maybe we can feel a little bit more confident about our natural lips and finally ditch the bad habits of lip fillers and possibly put down the extremely drying matte lipsticks.
Disclaimer: I am not against lip fillers, nor have I ever received any. This is just a post help you embrace your natural lips with some beauty secrets that aren’t really such a secret!
Okay… hear me out okay?
So while I’m no expert, I like to think I’ve developed a pretty effective lip care routine and even more so, it’s so damn simple!
No srsly, I’m talking easy, easy. No crazy expensive products, no fancy procedures, no strange Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge interpretations…. just you, 3 simple steps, and a journey to luscious natural lips (no need for fillers or lip plumping over here! Unless that’s your thing, which is totally cool too)

Step 1: Lip Treatment
I used to be a simple lip balm kind of girl, however, sometimes one coat of your go-to lip balm just isn’t enough. Then I discovered lip treatments, which, let me tell you, have totally changed the game. Similar to hair treatments, which we all know and love, lip treatments are designed to deeply nourish and hydrate your lips, tackling dryness head-on. Bonus points if you apply them overnight!

Step 2: Lip Scrub
Mmmm, what’s better than applying lipstick to flaky lips? Not. Once you’ve hydrated your lips using a treatment, it’s now time to say goodbye to all that gross flaky dead skin! Just like exfoliating your face, your lips appreciate being buffed and polished from time to time. Plus if you get a lip scrub that’s edible/sugar based, it’s like an afternoon snack and beauty step all in one… just saying!

Step 3: Lip Balm
The classic. Without a doubt, it steps 3 that’s going to leave you with soft, pout-ready and selfie worthy lips. Plus, lip balm is always soothing, which is important especially if you’ve just been scrubbing away. So, all in all, don’t skip this step if your wanting to leave your lips both soft and protected (ie. To avoid more disastrous dry lip situations in the future). Win-win.
On another important note, ever find yourself applying the same lip balm over and over and over, yet somehow feel like they are only getting even more chapped? Don’t stress, you aren’t going crazy – turns out your lips can literally get addicted to certain products, to the point where the product stops working altogether. ummm.. excuse me? So, I’m no scientist, so check this article for all the juicy realness.
“..potentially irritating ingredient, it can cause inflammation and loss of hydration.”
I know shocking right??
So, in saying that, I think the best advice I can give is to change up your products every now and then. And like with any beauty regime, it’s important to find the products that work for you! Just because a certain lip treatment works for Brittany, or for the girl from work, or for your sister, or even for me, doesn’t mean it’s necessarily going to do the job for you!
So, to help you out a bit, I’ve listed some well-loved lip care products below to get you started, nicely organized according to the step by step process I’ve just explained! Now all you have to do is choose your favorites, and then say goodbye to those dreaded chapped lips, forever (or at least, as close to forever as we can get, winter seems to set our lips back a little from time to time).
That’s it! Lip care in 3 simple steps. Find yourself some products; and then get treating, scrubbing and moisturizing.
Your lips will thank you, trust me.
